It’s Christmas

Merry Christmas

“ Tell me what you pay attention to and I will tell you who you are. “ – José Ortega y Gasset

Let me begin this article by wishing you and your family a merry Christmas and offering a huge thank you for spending a few minutes with my words on this day. It is in the joy full theme of Christmas I would like to share some thoughts and stories with you.

While we are all gathering with our loved ones to share a meal and exchange gifts, I cannot help but think about what both troubles and intrigues me about life, is the fact that as things come and go it shapes how we see the world. Some of these changes are big life events and some are so small that we do not even notice them, yet they all have a collective effect on our value system.

Most of the stories I have shared with you have been based on my coming to grips with loss and trying to redefine and rebuild myself this year. The things I am going to share with in this passage is what I have gained during all this upheaval. Going from having to not having and from being able to help to now needing help has forced me to see the world in a different light. In twelve months, I’ve gone from having a home and a family that I had built, to spending the coldest nights of the winter sleeping in my truck and having only what I could keep in a backpack or the back seat. To now spending my nights sleeping in my bed underneath the warm roof of my tiny apartment surround by my son and few new close friends. Having come full circle now it is hard to not see that my values have not changed.

This holiday season has not been an easy one however there is still joy to be found in it. That joy is to be found in both the people I am fortunate enough to still have around me as well the new faces that have entered my journey. Life still is not easy however I feel blessed to be able to turn off my struggles and just enjoy those people. Therefore, to those people as well as to you the reader I say thank you for being a part of my journey.

Normally I look for a deeper meaning in the story to leave you with or inspire those who come looking for inspiration. However, I prefer to close this passage with a push for you to enjoy your surroundings, to tell each person that is around you today thank you for being a part of your journey and how much you value them being along with you for the ride.

For now, once I again I wish you a very merry and fulfilling Christmas! Enjoy those around you and I will see you on the other side. With new stories, ideas, and challenges as we navigate this path together.
